Eating Well in London

Hello from across the pond. It’s always a treat to travel and explore new places. Enjoying fresh scenery and seeing how other cultures live helps us expand our own world. I was lucky to travel to London last week to visit my sister and, as I love to do, took the time to enjoy the amazing food scene.  London has definitely become a food destination with an array of dining spots offering healthy dishes. So many great places with plant-based options. One of the things I love about London is that you can’t run out of great places to eat. There are so many offerings from a plethora of cuisines. Some of the best Indian and Middle Eastern food can be found in London. Come along with me and experience the wonderful dishes I enjoyed in London.

  1. Wagamama

For a low-cost chain, the food is excellent here. The vegan Pad Thai was incredible. It’s a great place for lunch with so many vegetarian and vegan options. Although starting out in London, Wagamama now has established itself in NYC.

  1. Palomar

If you love Israeli/Mediterranean food, don’t miss this spot. Just make sure to book a reservation a couple weeks in advance. The food is very authentic and if you close your eyes for just a moment, you may feel like you are sitting in a lovely Tel Aviv cafe. I definitely enjoyed the smoky babaganoush and “Tree of Life” charred broccoli salad. HIghly recommend these two dishes.

  1. Ting at The Shard (in the Shangri-La Hotel)

Yes, The Ting Restaurant in the Shangri-la Hotel is a little pricey. But the captivating views that come along with dining, well there are no words. In addition to the dramatic views from the 36thfloor, the food and service was incredible. Plus lots of plant-based dishes in addition to the wonderful fish and poultry entrees. I loved the Roasted Carrots with Couscous.

  1. Mildred’s

If you love salads and other vegetable-centric dishes, make a stop for lunch at Mildred’s. The food is delicious and will keep you well-fueled as you explore the streets of London after your amazing meal.

  1. Rashoul’s

As a lover of Middle Eastern food, I can’t leave London without stopping at Rashoul’s. The food is so fresh and delicious; from the creamy hummus and babaganoush to the grilled fish and meats, this Lebanese restaurant should be on your radar.

  1. The Chelsea Physics Garden Restaurant

Yes, you have to be a member of The Chelsea Physics Garden to dine here. If you know  someone who is, please ask them to take you.  Luckily, you have to walk through the garden to enjoy the lovely restaurant. The gardens are exquisite and you’ll be in for quite a treat. The food is lovely as well. They serve a variety of plant-based dishes, including some delicious salads. I chose the Superfoods Salad, which included lots of seeds. Getting back to the gardens, they are breathtaking and definitely worth a visit. The four-acre garden consists of various plantings that are well-curated to provide a nice variety of garden design. It’s definitely worth a visit. And walking in parks, or just walking for that matter, is a great form of exercise. It’s my favorite exercise to do when I travel. Here’s a pic from the lovely gardens:

7. Sticks and Sushi

This lovely Japanese restaurant has a wonderful menu with many interesting choices. The food was delicious. From sushi to salads to skewers of grilled vegetables and fish, this place has a large menu with excellent food and service. Highly recommend for a great lunch or dinner with prices that won’t break the bank. Beautiful interior with relaxing vibe.
